Welcome to Maplefields Training and Development, an arm of the Ofsted outstanding Maplefields Academy in Corby, Northamptonshire.

As Maplefields Teaching School Alliance, we have worked since 2014 with our strategic partner special schools to facilitate initial teacher training, provide school-to-school support, behaviour outreach support and training and development, widely to schools in Northamptonshire and beyond.

We have a long history prior to forming the alliance which goes back to around the year 2000, when Maplefields special primary school (which opened in September 1998) provided school to school support, teacher training under the GTP programme and behaviour outreach to schools across the north of the county. Never standing still, the school grew over the years, became ‘all–through,’ moved to a brand new purpose-built school on a new site in Corby and became a standalone academy. Throughout this exciting journey the school has received the outstanding judgement from Ofsted and leaders have always identified the benefit for both Maplefields and beyond in sharing expertise and practice. Leaders say; ‘It keeps us on our toes’ ‘we learn from colleagues as we share skills and practice with them’ ‘it has helped me grow as a professional’ ‘it has given me confidence to extend my leadership’ and much more.

The introduction of the teaching school hub programme, which aims to create 87 centres of excellence for teacher training and development across the country, replaces the previous network of around 750 teaching schools, including our own, in August 2021.

As a result, we have reviewed the impact of our work, our offer to schools and the feedback we have received over the years and plan to continue under our new name of Maplefields Training and Development from 1st September 2021.

Teaching school hubs will provide high-quality professional development to teachers at all stages of their careers and we will be working with the Northamptonshire Teaching School Hub who will play a significant role in delivering school based initial teacher training (ITT), the early career framework (ECF) and the new specialist NPQs.

In addition, we will continue to provide school-to-school support, which forms a separate arm of the DfE, our tailored behaviour outreach, high quality training and development and our ITT programme as the lead school with The Pilgrim Partnership at Sharnbrook Academy. So do please browse our website. If you cannot find what you need, you would like some advice, or a conversation, please do get in touch.

We take great pride in the fact that our work is tailored to meet individual school’s needs. Together with our former teaching alliance strategic partners who we continue to work with; Kingsley Academy, Rowan Gate school, Friars Academy, Isebrook College, Daventry Hill School, Red Kite Academy and Wren Spinney we have a huge expertise, knowledge and experience in SEND which we are keen to share with schools. This is what make us unique.
