Welcome to Maplefields Training and Development, an arm of the Ofsted outstanding Maplefields Academy in Corby, Northamptonshire.
From 2014 Maplefields Teaching School Alliance, we facilitated initial teacher training, provided school-to-school support, behaviour outreach support and training and development, widely to schools in Northamptonshire and beyond.
We have a long history prior to forming the alliance which goes back to around the year 2000, when Maplefields special primary school (which opened in September 1998) provided school to school support, teacher training under the GTP programme and behaviour outreach to schools across the north of the county. Never standing still, the school grew over the years, became ‘all–through,’ moved to a brand new purpose-built school on a new site in Corby and became a standalone academy. Throughout this exciting journey the school has received the outstanding judgement from Ofsted and leaders have always identified the benefit for both Maplefields and beyond in sharing expertise and practice. Leaders say; ‘It keeps us on our toes’ ‘we learn from colleagues as we share skills and practice with them’ ‘it has helped me grow as a professional’ ‘it has given me confidence to extend my leadership’ and much more.
With the introduction of the teaching school hub programme, which created centres of excellence for teacher training and development across the country, the previous network of around 750 teaching schools, including our own, ceased to operate in August 2021.
As a result, we have reviewed the impact of our work, our offer to schools and the feedback we have received over the years and plan to continue under our new name of Maplefields Training and Development from 1st September 2021.
We take great pride in the fact that our work is tailored to meet individual school’s needs.

We will support you throughout your course and ensure ‘The Golden Thread’ when you qualify and progress as an Early Careers Teacher into Year 2.
Having trained teachers for over fifteen years, we have a strong tradition of supporting trainees, consistently building on our skills, knowledge and expertise.
Our mentors will work with you throughout your journey.
Many of our own teachers are ‘Home Grown’ having identified their career path into teaching and achieving promotion after embedding their skills, knowledge and understanding. Do read our case studies!
As a specialist academy, we have long recognised the importance of our input into Initial Teacher Training. We are therefore committed to supporting trainees through a whole school approach, which supports embedding of centre- based training into school experience training.
We absolutely believe that ‘Every Teacher should be a Teacher of SEND’ regardless of whether they work in mainstream or specialist provision. We are therefore well- placed to support trainees to enable them to develop a growing knowledge and understanding through their school placements.
We can also offer the Assessment Only route for those who have already had experience in teaching but have not yet achieved QTS.
Other options include the apprenticeship route.
We are happy to discuss your individual needs with you.
